We are a group of women who have been reading together over nine
years. We met when we all worked in the same school, as teachers,
aids, assistants, etc. Since the school closed we have taken many
directions in our professional paths but still gather once a month to share a love of books. We use several methods to choose books and have read many long before they were “recommended” by book clubs, stores or others.
BOOKS WE’D RECOMMEND FROM RECENT SELECTIONS
Some of our favorite books include Unsaid by Neil Abramson, The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, and My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. After nine years together we have read some really great books.
BEST BOOKS FOR DISCUSSION
Unsaid by far was one of our favorites since author Neil Abramson joined us via phone. It is a love story that love cannot define. It is love between man and woman, best friends and people with their “non-human” companions. It is a smart story about life and death and doing what is right. This book touched us all differently and yet, it is one of few that has touched us all. It has life lessons that I remember on a daily basis. I don’t know what to say aside from I loved this book!
